The 2001 Convention was held in Albany, New York, on September 20-22.
Friday morning consisted of a tour at Amtrak's Albany-Rensselaer station and maintenance facility. During the visit to the station, a northbound Amtrak train arrived. It would swap its dual-mode Genesis unit for a regular diesel Genesis and continue on to Buffalo.
The highlight of the shop tour was an opportunity to see and photograph Amtrak FL9's 485 and 486, which at one time operated as PC 5010 and 5013. A group photo was taken in front of the 485.
Saturday morning featured a tour of CSX's Selkirk Yard, including the hump tower, dispatcher center, and locomotive shop. Here is a view from the top of the hump tower. The locomotive shop is the light blue building in the background.
The dispatcher center handles all CSX trains between Erie, Pa., and Boston, and Montreal and Philadelphia.
Last stop on the tour was the diesel shop. Here, former Conrail B23-7 3180 awaited some attention.
The final tour of the day was the New England, Berkshire & Western model railroad at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This is a train going through some the layout's spectacular scenery.
